Minima: Nosferatu

Event Date:
Sunday 13th May

Brunel Goods Shed, Stroud GL5 3AP

Minima’s music is an audacious 21st-Century interpretation of the images of silent and avant-garde film. Formed in 2006, Minima perform in cinemas and arts centres, as well as music and film festivals and unexpected venues. Minima’s repertoire includes silent feature films: surrealism, horror and science fiction, as well as silent short films, animations and improvised performances.

One of the band’s scores is for the 1922 horror classic Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, and this year is the 90th Anniversary of the film’s release. One of the silent era’s most influential masterpieces, Nosferatu’s eerie, gothic feel - and a chilling performance from Max Shrek as the vampire - set the template for the horror films that followed. Based on the Dracula story, this is a true spine-tingler with many now iconic scenes of the blood-sucking count. Darkly humorous and tender too - this is a story of yearning
and the search for fulfilment.

Get the Blessing

Event Date:
Saturday 19th May

Saturday 19th May 8.30pm-11pm
SVA, 4 John Street, Stroud, GL5 2HA

Bristolian jazzy post-rockers Get The Blessing return to the Site Festival.
With the release of their third album OC DC this March, Get The Blessing are once again elbowing their way out of easy categorisation.

As winners of the 2008 BBC Jazz Award win for Best New Album they wear their jazz credentials lightly but defiantly. A shared love of legendary saxophonist Ornette Coleman’s early quartet inspired their boldly monophonic instrumentation. The intricate but absolutely rock-solid rhythm section forms the glue that holds Get The Blessing together, with the dual sax and trumpet frontline working with the bass to create melodies and harmonies. This Site Festival highlight will be a fantastic opportunity to explore the fascinating and idiosyncratic musical world of the Get The Blessing.

Tickets: £7.50 in advance, online from SVA or fromTrading Post 01453 759116, £10 on the door
