Andy Sheppard is the top jazz saxophonist in the UK according to many. With utmost excitement, Stroud Jazz Sessions are hosting him for an extra-special-guest performance and jam! This jazz hub is abuzz with insane delight! Andy’s playing transcends norms, lyrically, rhythmically, expressively, inventively. He develops, dives, flies! In a career spanning the late 70s to the present day, he cleaned up at the British Jazz Awards and has never looked back.
Andy has engaged with just about every jazz art form, from straight ahead small groups to big bands, African and Latin rhythms, electro and club beats, funk, rock, and world instrumentalists. Integrally to his performing he is an acclaimed composer, writing for all his groups, plus orchestras, theatre, film, TV, massive saxophone troupes, and a Northumbrian piper! He has collaborated with many greats, including pianist Joanna MacGregor, trumpeters Randy Brecker and Claude Deppa, violinist Nigel Kennedy. He has also worked with the three greatest contemporary jazz composers - Carla Bley, George Russell and Gil Evans. Andy’s expertise and depth of experience are simply unparalleled. Special energies and planetary conjunctions with be channelled on Stroud this night. This Stroud Jazz Sessions is an extended night featuring Andy’s performances and a stonkingly energetic jam for all to play or sing. Stroud Jazz Sessions acts as a hub for those interested in jazz, listening or playing. Come along on the 2nd Thursday of the month which always feature a special guest performance and jam session.
