Why do I need to register and what is the box with those funny letters?

Lots of artists will be providing information to SVA, some of which they would like to remain confidential. They are also providing contact details and we will take all precautions to ensure as far as possible that they are not SPAMed.
The device with the funny letters is called CAPTCHA and is a device that humans can read but machines can not.
The device is not case sensitive so you can enter Capitals or Lower Case characters

After you have submitted your completed  registration form you will receive an email telling you how to complete your registration.

What is the site contemporary arts festival?

This site festival presents the work of over 300 artists in 80 sites across the Stroud Valleys during the whole month of May. The site festival creates a platform for artists and artist collectives to show new work, to initiate new projects, and work collaboratively with other artists. Stroud Valleys Artspace (SVA), the festival host organisation, will be opening its doors to invite you to a month long programme of exhibitions, open studios, film screenings, talks and performance.

How do I take part in the site festival?

The Site Festival provides a platform for artists and artist collectives to show new work, to initiate projects, work collaboratively or alongside other artists in a diverse range of sites across the district.
Projects can include site specific based works, screenings, talks, workshops, exhibitions, performance events etc..

If you have a site and/or project in mind but want to make contact with other artists, please contact SVA and we will make sure that your proposed project is publicised. We receive many requests from artists wishing to work with other artists.

If you are already a member of SVA then you can use the members newsgroup to publicise your ideas and requests yourself.

When is the closing date for 2012 applications?

The closing date will be January 18th 2012

We are planning a group exhibition. Should we be in the Open Studios directory or the Festival programme?

If a group of artists wish to exhibit together in one artist’s house, studio or other venue, the group can choose two ways to publicise the exhibition in the festival.

The group may choose to do both. These options are:

  1. Each exhibiting artist can choose to register for Open Studios and have individual contact details, text and one image in the Open Studios Directory. All the artists will appear together in this section and the exhibition address will be clearly marked.
The Open Studios directory is for individual listings only.
We will not put a group show under one entry in the Open Studios Directory. If you wish to do this your exhibition must be in the Festival Programme

  2. The group of artists can choose to publicise the exhibition in the advertising section in the Exhibitions and Events programme.
The site festival programme will feature selected events and exhibitions of the main programme section.
The site festival aims to support and promote artist led projects and will focus on these initiatives in the programme.
We welcome additional information on your project in the form of press releases and images and will consider all submitted information carefully.
Are there any conditions applicable to artists organising ttheir own event in the festival programme?

Certain Conditions apply:

  • The artists themselves are entirely responsible for organising all aspects of these shows
  • No commission will be charged by SVA but public spaces may charge commissions
  • SVA reserves the right to select the special events to publicise in the festival guide
  • If an exhibition or event is not considered appropriate for advertising in the festival programme the fee will be reimbursed
How do I take part in Open Studios?

Step 1
If you are already a 'Registered User' then login and go to step 2

  • If you are not yet a registered user you must first create an account with SVA
  • Browse to www.stroudvalleysartspace.org.uk
  • At the left hand side, below the User Login, you will see 'Register with SVA'. Click on the link

  • A new page will open
Fill in your 'User Name'. Its a good idea to use your own name or a common nickname, then you won't forget it.

  • Enter your email address and fill in the 'First Name', 'Last Name' and 'Gender' boxes.
Please use the grammatically correct case i.e. capitalise the first letter of your names and leave all other letters in lower case. Please do this yourself as we think it will look very unprofessional in the Directory if you don't.

  • Type the letters that you see in the CAPTCHA image into the box and click 'Register with SVA'

  • You will be sent an email, hopefully in a few minutes, with your user name and temporary password.

  1.

How much does it cost to take part in 2012 Open Studios?

Option 1: Fee £93.00 incl. VAT + £25.00 SVA Membership = £118.00 total
This entitles you to all of the benefits but in return you will be required to participate in
some additional aspects of SVA activities. This contribution is essential. Please
complete the volunteering section by ticking the boxes corresponding to your special skills.

Option 2: Fee £142.00 incl. VAT + £25.00 SVA Membership = £167.00 total
This entitles you to all of the benefits but will not involve you in any additional volunteering work.
Note: All participants are required to deliver approx. fifty Directories and Programmes in their own locale. Everyone also has to take a turn at exhibition invigilation. Until you have volunteered for an invigilation time slot or have agreed an alternative with SVA you will not be included in the directory.
The closing date will be January 18th 2012

How do I pay if I don't want to open a PayPal account?

There are two ways

  • We prefer you to make a card payment. Its easier for us to deal with 100 or so artists. You don't need to have a paypal account.
Just go to the payment page and ignore the stuff about the PayPal account and then it just works like any other credit/debit  card payment transaction.

  • If you don't want to pay by card, on the very first page of the registration form you will seen the volunteering option select box

    Choose Option *

  •

    £ 162.00

Immediately below the Total Fee box you will see

Tick this box then come into SVA within a week and pay (We know it says cash but we prefer a cheque)

Do I need to register with SVA again or does my registration carry through from previous years if there are no changes?

Log in (If you can't remember your user name then use your email address)
If you are registered from last year, when you click the link and go to the Open Studios sign up, at the top of the page you will see "Welcome (your name)  . (Not (your name) , or want to register a different person?)"
You should see all the data that you entered already in place. Just check and correct as necessary.

I have a studio space at SVA. Are there any special guidelines for artists like me?

Your Open Studios fee is included in your studio rental so it's all quite easy.

Tick the box for option 2 - 'Register at reduced rate - including Volunteering'
Tick the box for 'I cannot pay online I will pay later in SVA' (You will not need to. This is just so you do not have to pay on-line)
Select the kind of jobs you want to volunteer for and submit the form.

Please note

  1. Unless you pay the additional fee for no-volunteers, you will be required to do volunteer tasks.
  2. You will be required, like everybody else, to deliver some literature and to do your share of invigilating any exhibitions.
